In Mumbai City, around 5,000 metric ton of household waste is being dumped in the dumping ground Deonar.Around twenty-five lakhs of population is suffering from severe respiratory diseases that are not responding to any medical treatment. Poisonous fumes of the Dumping ground are carcinogenic gas, Formaldehyde, which may cause cancer of the lung. Methane, Carbon-di-oxide, Hydrogen Sulphide gases may cause various other diseases like Asthma, TB etc.
It is very surprising that MMRDA has not noticed it. I along with all the citizens of Mumbai would like to remind MMRDA about their commendable and GREEN Project, Maharashtra Nature Park at Dharavi-Mahim. Any outsider visiting Mumbai will not believe that the Dumping Ground of yester years have paved way to a beautiful and thriving Ecosystem in the form of Nature Park. Thanks to MMRDA.
In addition to Multi-storied buildings, Mumbai need to have Nature Parks, Water Parks, Gardens, and trekking sites. Otherwise Mumbai will be just a concrete jungle with no greenery around. So, Deonar Dumping ground will be GREEN solution for the health owes of the population residing in and around the place.
If part of the Dumping Ground is converted it will make a lot of difference to the public. The benefits are many. Some of the benefits are:
· Huge employment opportunity can be created.
· Several endangered plant species can be revived.
· Birds and Animal sanctuaries can be established.
· Cloning of animals and birds can be started for endangered species.
· Plant Nurseries, Seed testing centers, Compost manufacturing unit, Organic Farming, Bio gas Plants can be established.
· Research unit for Tissue Culture method of propagation of plants, improvisation of Agricultural tools can also be established.
The benefits and the advantages of turning a Dumping Ground into a Nature Park are immeasurable. By developing a Nature Park, emission of greenhouse gases can be reduced. We can achieve a good quality of air and the public will have no health hazards. Plants and trees become Air conditioners and Air coolers of the Earth. Thus Global Warming can be reduced and climate change can be prevented.
Household waste of Mumbai City is certainly going to fetch huge rewards to BMC.If BMC is not able to do, private companies, industries, NGOs; even citizen forum can take up the uphill task of Wealth and Wellness creation.
Human life is always centering on the plant life. The interdependence between the plant and the Human life is a well established fact that the plant life is a diverse, healthy, rich, & flourishing component of the world. Human life has a moral responsibility for Nurturing and Protecting plants.
