School is the second home for our children. School is a place where not only knowledge is given but also moral, ethical and social values are learnt by the children. All children enjoy their schooling years. They love and enjoy the company of their friends for a sufficient number of years. They also show love and affection towards their teachers.

When children are taught efficiently they learn their lessons well. Their only fear is EXAMINATION. For most students it gives them sleepless nights. Almost all of them have nightmares about exams. During the examinations several students complain of ill health, problems like head ache, nausea, fever etc. Parental pressures also cause worries and tensions to the students. A peer group pressure also adds to their problems.

The present day system of Education is more Examination oriented than Learning oriented. If the system of Education is learning oriented then the students will certainly show interest in learning. They will learn their lessons well and also try to explore the realms of knowledge to learn more on their own.

World Wide Web is very easily accessible today. All information and knowledge can be very easily reached with a mouse click. So students of today do not require traditional type of examination. Traditional Exams are based on knowledge and rote memory. Learning capacity of the students is not measured. Only memory recall is measured in terms of marks in the limited time. Students are evaluated by marks only.

Today students don’t like to be compared with their friends and classmates. Each one wants to be unique. Each one of them wants to do something differently so that he wants to show that he is different from the others. They hate comparisons and criticisms.

Students welfare oriented schools should introduce different mode of assessment. Examinations or the assessment of students should be at the end of each chapter or lesson. The tests should be carefully designed by the teachers covering all the teaching concepts. The questions should be of multiple choice varieties, matching variety and true false varieties. Long answers and short answer types can be given as Home assignment only. Questions should be based on knowledge, understanding, skill and application aspects of Education.

The tests should be computer aided and interactive. Interactive Computer aided tests permit the children to reattempt the wrongly answered questions any number of times till they get the right answer. This creates a sense of adventure and search- ability prompted by computer aided interaction. It perfects their subject knowledge. Their scores should be given on completion immediately. This reduces the long waiting and tension for results.

In this system of Examination, “students copying” answers from their friends or from pre-written materials are avoided. Both the students and the teachers will not be in the awkward position after the incident of copying. So the teacher- pupil bond is strengthened to a large extent. The teacher actually becomes a friend and a guide. So learning will be at its peak.

In this system of Education the aim and the goal of Education is Learning and not marks or Examinations. Schooling for learning becomes the objective of the parents, teachers and the students. This system of Examination promotes self study habits, search and analytical ability. Children become enthusiastic and self-motivated. There will be positive vibrations amongst the children. The schooling years of our children become a Happy Learning Phase in their lives.

Education is one field that requires a lot changes. People and the schools should modernize Education by bringing technology into Education. Computer aided Tests and Examinations in schools and colleges will certainly revolutionize and modernize Education. The aim and the objective of any school in our country should be to grant happy schooling years to our children and to make Learning very happy.
