Earth is the only planet where life is
flourishing. It is a unique planet with rich bio-diversity. Earth is the home
to several unicellular, primitive organisms to highly-developed multi-cellular
and multitasking man. The basic requirements for survival for all organisms are
food, water and air. All organisms can
live without food for several months, and they can also live without water for
several days. But it is impossible to live without air even for a fraction of a
second. So air is a vital nutrient for the survival of all the organisms as air
is required for the most important physiological activities.
Air is a mixture of several gases. Oxygen is one
of the essential constituents of air. Oxygen is required for breathing. Inhaling
oxygen and exhaling carbon di oxide is the normal process of all living things.
Oxygen is one of the most important nutrients required by all the living
organisms. Since all organisms require oxygen to live, the quality and the
quantity of oxygen affect their physical well being. So it is essential to
breathe pure air. Natural steady supply of fresh air is important because all
organisms require steady supply of oxygen for living. It is essential that
every cell should breathe fresh oxygen.
There are several reasons why we should breathe
fresh air. After the air reaches the
lungs exchange of gases takes place. Oxygen from the air is absorbed by the
alveoli. Red blood cells carry the oxygen and supply them to all the cells and
tissues. Cells use this oxygen for the production of energy. This is called
metabolism. Cells become healthy because of sufficient supply of oxygen.
Healthy cells make up healthy body. Respiration eliminates carbon di oxide and
other various other gaseous impurities and toxins. This process continues in
the cells.
The benefits of breathing fresh air are as
follows:
- Increases
growth in both plants and animals.
- Airways of
the lungs are dilated and toxins from the lungs are removed.
- Improves
heart rate, blood pressure and metabolic rate.
- Immune
system is boosted to fight against disease causing germs.
- Stimulates
appetite and helps in proper digestion of food.
- Nerves are
soothed. So there is a relaxed and refreshed feeling.
- Helps to
sleep soundly in the night.
- Improve
concentration and helps to think clearly.
- Helps body
to get rid of accumulated impurities.
- Promotes a
sense of well being and happiness.
Our planet is lacking in pure and fresh air due to
various reasons. So, getting fresh air
every day for a few hours is very difficult. Air is polluted with poisonous
gases, chemical substances, and several other metallic impurities due to
industrialization and rapid urbanization.
Therefore, physical and the chemical composition of air is disturbed. Atmospheric
air is polluted and consequently indoor air is also polluted. In fact indoor
air is more polluted than the outdoor air. Nowadays indoor air pollution is
posing a global threat. Modern man spends most of his time indoors. He is
breathing the contaminated and impure air again and again. Therefore, there is
no proper provision for circulation of air.
Indoor air pollution is surely a man made threat
due to his own activities like cooking, washing, cleaning and so on. Indoor air
pollution not only causes health problems but also causes several behavioral
disorders. Indoor air pollution should be tackled wisely by not disturbing the
environment. Any gadget for filtering indoor air adds to the ecological
disturbance of the environment and creates disequilibrium in our
ecosystem. This will add to global
warming and climate change. So it is essential that we think and opt for a green method to tackle the age old problem
of Indoor air pollution. So we have to greenify our lives.
We have to think green to act green.
Think
Green!!! Act Green!!!!
