Education has played a vital role in transforming the society. The advent of Technology has a great impact on education. Technology is transforming the method of instruction in schools and colleges. Technology has also changed the ways of thinking amongst teachers and the learners. The so called text books, science journals, map books have paved way to compact CDS, tablets, YouTube videos, Google maps and so on.

The use of technology in education has helped teachers across the globe to impart knowledge easily. The students and the teachers are enjoying the process of learning and teaching as technology has made learning and instruction interactive. Technology has helped learners to experience the actual making of learning.

Technology has helped education to grow and advance rapidly. The use of technological devices in education has created interest in learning. The presentation of the information is better due to technology.  The storage of information is robust and the sharing of information is easy. The learners have become more matured and think rationally as they experience actual, concrete learning. Further the learners can access the information easily through the internet as we are living the age of Information Technology.

Technology has enabled education through various different methods. They are: Online Learning, Open Source Learning, Mobile Learning and Cloud Based Learning. Digitalization of education has enabled students to learn through games, videos, simulations etc.

Technology has enabled students to leave the four walls of the class rooms and has helped students to have the learning experience from anywhere, any time and at place.

Learner centric or student centric education is promoted with the help of Technology where the students play an active role in the learning process and teachers are mere guides. It is the duty of teachers to make the students self-reliant.

Technology has helped in changing the relationship between teacher and the taught. Now there is mutual respect between them. The teachers are encouraging their students to learn. The students learn to value their teachers and classmates as they will be working together. In short there will be mutual respect and understanding amongst the students and the teachers. 

Technology has helped to develop several  devices like mobiles, tablets, and smart phones. These devices are slowly replacing note books, pens and papers. The ability to operate a laptop or a tablet deftly has become a necessity of the present day students. The ability to access the internet to get information is an added skill to the learners. So, technology has made learning more effective and engaging.

Technology has helped in student’s active participation while learning. They learn in groups by discussing, talking, thinking, reflecting. They find learning joyful and easy. So, they are more likely to retain their knowledge.

Technology has made students learn by collaborating with their group. Learning in group increases the awareness amongst the students and help them to progress. The students collaborate with their classmates and learn. This is the best form of learning as it promotes critical thinking and the learners become more creative. Collaborative learning includes debates, group projects and several other joint ventures. When education is imparted through projects the students understand and adjust with fellow students.

Technological intervention in education has made the learners to take responsibility for their own learning and achievements because they actively participate in the knowledge making process. Technology has also made the assessment of students easier. It is based on the performance of the students. Assessment is for measuring the Quality of learning and not the Quantity of learning.

Thus, Technology has enabled individualization of learning process. Education should embrace technology for its betterment. Education is progressing due to revolution in technology. Education will take a lead as technology progresses. As technology grows education will flourish. We have to nourish education with technology for the growth of mankind. After all, both Education and Technology are interdependent.
