Soil pollution occurs due to Deforestation, Land Degradation, accumulation of waste water and contaminated water, Overuse of chemical fertilizers and pesticides in the agricultural fields, Acid Rain, Soil Erosion by wind and water. Sewage water also causes soil pollution. Non-bio- degradable substances like dumping plastics cause soil pollution.
The Effects of Soil Pollution are the Barren Land, Several Health problems and a fall in Agricultural Production.
Here are some Green Ideas for cleaning the soil from its impurities and to Save Soil. Plants are the Cleaning Machines which will clean the polluted soil as they absorb the impurities of the soil before they are released into the atmosphere.
If the soil is polluted with Arsenic, Chromium, Copper, Lead, Zinc, Uranium we can grow sunflower.
Grow Fern crops to absorb the metal Arsenic from the soil and stores Arsenic in its leaves.
To absorb Lead, Zinc and Selenium we can grow Indian mustard and Poplar Trees.
To absorb Zinc, Mercury, Lead we can grow Common Osier.
In the saline soil we can grow Barley and Sugar beat to absorb Sodium chloride.
To absorb Cadmium and Zinc, Copper, Molybdenum, Lead and Chromium we can grow Thlapsi Caerulescens.
To absorb Silver, Chromium, Lead, Mercury, Selenium and Zinc grow Rapeseed plants.
To absorb Mercury, Selenium organic pollutants such as polychlorinated biphenyls we can grow any Transgenic plants like Agro bacterium tumefaciens,Golden Rice, Flavr Savr Tomato containing genes for bacterial enzymes.
The plants absorb contaminants through the root system and store them in the root biomass and/or transport them up into the stems and/or leaves. A living plant may continue to absorb contaminants until it is harvested. After harvest a lower level of the contaminant will remain in the soil, so the growth/harvest cycle must usually be repeated through several crops to achieve a significant cleanup. After the process, the cleaned soil can support other vegetation.
SAVE SOIL and prevent Water Pollution, Air Pollution, Contamination of Food crops.
PROTECT SOIL and PRESERVE the quality of the SOIL and the crops
CONSERVE SOIL and protect the rich Bio-Diversity of the Earth.
